The earlier the better! While I welcome mamas at any stage of their journey, hiring your doula early in your second trimester (around 14–20 weeks) is ideal. Birth is beautifully unpredictable. In the rare event of an overlapping birth or a true emergency, I work with a small, trusted collective of local, like-minded doulas who share my philosophy and standards of care. If I know ahead of time that there may be a chance I don't make it, you will have the opportunity to know exactly who is on call for you so you always feel completely safe and held.
